Imphal: A team of Senapati district police arrested a drug ferrier who was carrying Brown Sugar towards Nagaland, on Tuesday.
The drug smuggler was identified as Songkhanching Haokip, 36, son of Nejahoi Haokip of Chassad village, Ukhrul district.
He was nabbed by the police while conducting frisking checking near Martyr’s Park, Mao about 2 km south from Mao Police station.
He was driving a white Tata-Yodha vehicle bearing registration number MN03A-7089. The vehicle was seen coming from Senapati side towards Nagaland.
The vehicle was stopped for frisking and checking. On checking the vehicle, suspected brown sugar was found concealed on the upper Hood body cover under Tarpaulin.
In presence of the district magistrate and the driver, the vehicle was checked. Thirty-five soap cases were found concealed on the upper Hood body cover under Tarpaulin. The soap cases contained 421.60 gm of brown sugar.
The drug and the vehicle were seized and the driver was arrested at 4 pm.
