Security forces recover huge cache of Arms and Ammunitions in Manipur

Imphal: Security forces have recovered huge number of arms and ammunitions from Imphal East, Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts of Manipur.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was under control, Manipur Police Control Room said on Tuesday.

Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal-East, Kakching, Bislumpur, Churachandpur, Thoubal and Imphal West districts.

During the operations, eight arms (Assault Rifle-01, .303-01, SMG Carbine-03, Sten Gun-01, 9mm Pistol-02), 62 (sixty-two) ammunition, 18 explosives, one country made Local Bomb Launcher (Pompi), two wireless sets (Kenwood) two Tube Launching, one smoke grenade and five Bullet proof jackets were recovered in Imphal-East district.

Two arms (9 mm Pistol with mag – 01, Local made single barrel —01), 12mm bore live round – 1, Heavy caliber machine gun rounds — 21, Heavy caliber machine gun rounds – 21, heavy Mortar (10ft) —1, country made improvised Bomb – 1, Rocket Propelled Grenade —1 were recovered in Old Dampi village, Churachandpur.

On Monday one person was abducted by unknown miscreants from Ithai, Bishnupur. District Police Bishnupur conducted search in various areas of Bishnupur and rescued the abducted person and recovered one arm (SLR Rifle), 10 ammunitions, one Tear Gas Gun, seven munition shells and two smart phones allegedly used by the miscreants.

Joint operations were also conducted by the combined team of state and central security forces at Phubala area, Kumbi Thingel Leikai, Saiton Hyeikon village, Moirang Khunou Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur District, Kasturi crossing, Thangal bazar, Moidangpok Khunjao village in Imphal West District, Langmeithek village, Tenths Khunou, Tejpur Mayai Leikai, Likla Kambong village, Kiyam Litanpok area in Thoubal District, Pallel Maning Leikai, opposite Pioneer English School and adjoining areas, Bijoypur Mamang and Maning Leikai in Kakching District. More than 600 houses were searched and over 1400 persons were verified. No arrests were made, the police control room said.

Joint Operations were also conducted in Vajing and adjoining areas, Khoinui village, Tollen Village and adjoining areas in Churachandpur District. In these search operations, around 150 houses were searched and around 200 persons were verified.

Movement of 323 vehicles along NH-37 and 213 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police control room said.

A total of 132 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, and police detained 2240 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

The police department appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number – 9233522822 of Central Control room, it said.

It also appeals to public to return the ‘looted arms, ammunition and explosives’ to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
