Large cache of arms, explosives recovered in Manipur

Imphal: Security forces on Tuesday recovered large cache of arms and explosives from a place near abandoned Gelbung village in Bishnupur district of Manipur.

The recovery was made when Bishnupur District Police team, a column of 2 Mahar and a platoon of E129 CRPF conducted search operation based on an information about the caching of explosives, arms and ammunitions near abandoned Gelbung village area by miscreants.

Some suspected areas were cordoned since 6 am and started search operation. In the operation the arms and explosives were recovered from one abandoned hut in the area.

The recovered arms and explosives were one A1(AB) rifle, one G3 rifle, 32 HE Hand Grenade, four 2 inch (Twins) Motor shell, 11Helmate mine bomb, 20 tube launcher, four WP Smoke Bomb, 20 Arming Ring, 1 BP Jacket and two detonators.

The operation was closed at 7.30 am. A case is taken up at Kumbi Police station for further investigation, a police report said.

Security forces have been taking up operations in the state to restore peace in Manipur which has been in chaos since May 3.
