Bomb blast at minister Khemchand’s residence in Imphal, 2 injured

Imphal: Unknown miscreants on Saturday at around 9.45 pm attacked at the residence of RD and PR minister, Yumnam Khemchand at Singjamei, Imphal, with bomb, injuring two persons, a civilian and a CRPF personnel deputed in front of minister’s main gate.

The injured pers have been identified as one Purnilesha Yumnam, 25, daughter of Y.  Leader of Yumnam Leikai, Imphal West and one sub-inspector, Dinesh Chandra Das, 57, son of late Siddeswar Das, of F-30 CRPF battalion.

Purnilesha received splinter injury on her left foot while Das received splinter injury on his right back hand.

The two unknown miscreants, reportedly, in a white and orange colour bike suspected to be KTM bike was seen riding along the Yumnam Leikai road. Eyewitness said both the miscreants covered their face with clothes and wear helmets.

They hurled a bomb suspected to be hand grenade towards the main gate of the minister. The bomb hit an electric post, around 15 metre away from the main gate, and the blast took place.

A team of Imphal Police station and Singjamei Police station rushed to the spot. IG, Themthing Ngasangva also appeared at the spot.

Later, chief minister N. Biren Singh came at the blast site.

Responding to a query, Biren said, “I strongly condemned such uncivilised act, will understand after the miscreants are arrested”.

Minister Khemchand said he does not have any enemy and he was also confused of the bomb attack.
