Imphal: Six volunteers of National Students’ Union of India, Manipur (NSUI) who were arrested on allegation of assaulting public servant has been released on bail on Monday.
Chairman of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) legal cell, Shyamachoron said, on September 13 members of NSUI, Manipur, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee marched a rally trying to submit a memorandum to governor of Manipur. A team of City Police tried to block the democratic rally and during the police action one of the police officer used abusive words towards the Congress members and volunteers of NSUI.
Confrontation took placed between the state police and members and volunteers of MPCC and NSUI.
A video surfaced on social media showing the confrontation of the protestors and state police in which one police officer used abusive words against the protestors instead of protecting civilians.
Based on various allegations, state police arrested the six volunteers of NSUI and the police went searching other members of MPCC like a criminal, Shyamchoron said.
They were released on bail with a PR bond of Rs 60,000 and the court has approved to provide anticipatory bail against another six congress members that police has been searching for, he added.
Shyamachoron urged the government not to take Congress party as an enemy but as an opposition party.
