People shield NIELIT demanding removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur

Imphal: People of Singjamei Kshertri Leikai Akampat, Imphal West shield the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) at Akampat on Tuesday as a part of people’s movement demanding removal of Assam Rifles from the state.

Iroisemba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and Iroisemba Youth Development Club have begun shutdown of central government departments and intitutions on Monday.

People from various sections have been demanding removal of Assam Rifles from the state. There has been allegations against Assam Rifles of taking side of Kuki community in the Meitei-Kuki clash erupted on May 3, the day Kuki started attacking Meitei village.

The Assam Rifles supplies arms and ammunitions, and also fire arms towards Meitei who come out to defend villages from Kuki-Zo’s attacks, people allege.

The agitators at NIELIT declared to lock the institute until the Assam Rifles removed from Manipur.

On the agitation at Iroisemba, Youth Development Club secretary Laimayum Pishu Sharma told reporters that the state and central governments are intentionally keeping blind eye to the series of attacks carried out by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists on Meetei community.

Instead of putting an end to the ongoing war, more central forces have been deployed in Manipur while Assam Rifles openly supports Chin-Kuki-narco-terrorists, he added.
