NIA arrests accused from Imphal in ‘Transnational Conspiracy’

Imphal: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested Moirangthem Anand Singh in a case related to ‘a transnational conspiracy by Myanmar based leadership of terror outfits to wage a war against the Government of India by exploiting the current ethnic unrest in Manipur’.

The case was registered suo moto by the NIA on July 19 at New Delhi.

Investigation of RC 23/2023/NIA/DLI by NIA revealed that, in furtherance of the conspiracy hatched by the leadership based in Myanmar of insurgent groups / proscribed terrorist Organizations are recruiting Over Ground Workers ( OGWs), cadres and sympathisers to augment the strength to carry out attacks on security forces and opposing ethnic groups by exploiting current unrest in the state of Manipur, the NIA said.

“And for this purpose, the aforementioned leadership are collecting arms, ammunitions and explosives by unlawful means, including plunder and pillage of government facilities and resources.”

The said accused was brought to New Delhi after his arrest and produced before the Jurisdictional Court on Saturday. The Court has remanded the accused to Police custody for a period of five days till September 27.

Further Investigations in the case are in progress, the NIA said.

Anand was among the five persons who were released on bail on Friday in a special court at Imphal. The five persons were arrested in Imphal allegedly for possessing arms among other allegations.

While the other four were handed to their respective family members by police, Anand was not handed to his family and later came to know that he was taken to Delhi by NIA.

People were stunned on not handing of Anand to his family when released on bail.
