Manipur crisis: Bunkers dismantled, arms and explosives recovered, Kuki lady with sons evacuated

Imphal: Security forces destroyed two bunkers in Tengnoupal district of Manipur, recovered two arms, five ammunitions and five explosives from Imphal West and Thoubal districts on Friday.

Manipur Police Control Room said search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal-West, Thoubal, Tengnoupal and Bishnupur districts.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, the police control room said.

One Kuki lady with her two minor sons were evacuated from Yairipok Bazaar by a CSO and Manipur Police and handed over to her family.

Movement of 300 vehicles along NH-37 and 204 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police control room said.

A total of 132 Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, and police detained 2231 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

The police department appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number – 9233522822 of Central Control room, it said.

It appeals to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
