Imphal: Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey on Monday informed that a separate Relief Bank Account was opened by governor’s Secretariat for providing assistance to the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and appeal all to donate in the said account.
The relief bank account number is 42104850437 and IFSC Code: SBIN0000092.
The governor furnished the information as representatives of North America Manipuri Association handed over a cheque of Rs 6 lakh to the governor to provide relief items for those affected in the ethnic clash. The representatives also submitted a memorandum to the governor.
Lt Gen (Retd.) Konsam Himalay along with Premjeet Sougrakpam and Hareena Sougrakpam of North America Manipuri Association called on the governor at Raj Bhavan here.
Anusuiya extended heartfelt gratitude to the team for their humanitarian initiative towards reaching out to the affected people at this critical juncture.
Such noble gesture of Manipuri Diaspora shows their love and concern for the people of Manipur, the governor said.
Lauding their efforts, the governor urged all the people of Manipur to extend maximum assistance for the displaced families.
She said peace and normalcy can be restored in Manipur only through concerted efforts from all sections of the society. Incidents of violence have reduced considerably, complete peace restoration will happen when all affected people will return to their respective homes.
Benjamin Tao, chairman, The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Senapati district branch, Manipur along with his team called on the governor at Raj Bhavan and apprised her of the current situation of IDPs staying in different relief camps of hill district.
The team informed the governor that the team visited different relief camps in Kangpokpi and Saikul areas to take stock of the ground situation and came across the problem of potable drinking water. They informed that they have handed over hygiene kits and essential items to the IDPs. They requested the governor for providing well-equipped Ambulance for IDPs requiring medical facilities and vehicle for transportation of relief items for the IDPs.
Anusuiya lauded the efforts of the Senapati, IRCS Branch in reaching out to the IDPs in hill district. She instructed the team to check the educational facilities for the IDPs children in hill district. She assured that all requirements of the IRCS, Senapati branch for the IDPs will be extended through IRCS Head branch and from her office as well.
She appealed the team to be a peace mediator while they extend their services for the affected people. The visiting team further extended their invitation to the governor to grace the inauguration of its office building in Senapati.
