CRPF replaces 9AR at Bishnnupur-Kangvai road

Imphal: After Center has earmarked 10 additional companies of central security forces for law and order duty in Manipur with the increasing tense in Manipur in connection with the ongoing Kuki-Meitei clash, 128 battalion of CRPF has been deployed at Bishnupur to Kangvai road area.

A government order issued and signed by additional general of police (law and order), Manipur, L. Kailun mentioned that in partial modification of office’s order of August 3, the naka/check point at Moirang Lamkhai on Bishnupur to Kangvai road shall be manned by civil police and CRPF in the place of 9th Assam Rifles with immediate effect and until further order.

Sources said seven companies of central forces have arrived in Imphal in an effort to quell the violence boiling in the state. It added that two CRPF companies and 1 ITBP company arrived in the state on Sunday, in addition to the 3 CRPF companies and 1 SSB which were sent to the state on Saturday.

Meanwhile, 3 BSF companies are reportedly enroute to Imphal via road, the sources said.

People from various sections and CSOs have been demanding for replacement of Assam Rifles by some other central security forces due to trust deficit from the Assam Rifles in the present clash.

BJP MLA, RK Imo has opined to replace some Assam Rifles that are deployed at vulnerable spots by other central forces to regain the trust between security forces and public in the present crisis in controlling law and order in Manipur.
