Imphal: At least two persons died and seven others were injured at Narenseina in Bishnupur district of Manipur during a fire exchange between suspected Meitei and Kuki people on Tuesday.
“On 29.08.2023, firing between armed miscreants occurred in the adjoining villages of Naransena in which 02 two persons succumbed to injuries and 07 (seven) persons sustained bullet/splinter injuries. District Police, AR, Army and CAPF deployed in the area responded and brought the situation under control,” Manipur Police Control Room said.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, the police control room said.
Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Bishnupur, Kakching, Churachandpur and Thoubal districts and recovered one arm, 20 ammunition and seven explosives from Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.
A total of 130 Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur. Police detained 2015 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
