Zoramthanga effigy torched in Manipur

Imphal: Meitei Students’ Association (MSA), Manipur University torch down effigy of Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga at Manipur University, Canchipur main gate on Tuesday.

The students decry the chief minister’s interference in the internal issue of Manipur by participating in a rally held at Mizoram on the same day.

The rally in Mizoram was organised by NGO Co-Ordinating Committee supporting the Kuki of Manipur in connection with the ongoing crisis.

President of Meitei Students’ Association, Manipur University, Nickel Haobijam told reporters that while government and other bodies including public are trying to bring back normalcy in the present crisis of Manipur, the rally was organized at Mizoram supporting the ‘separate administration’ demand of Kuki which can escalate the violence in Manipur.

He said the students association strongly condemned Zoramthanga for participating in the rally in order to encourage the protestors. The association also condemned for trying to mislead the nation by using slang words towards the chief minister of Manipur and its people.

“This Manipur issue. Mizoram including its CM has no right to interfere in the crisis of Manipur. If they want then they can give separate administration from their own state,” Nickel said.

The protestor torch down effigy of Zoramthanga raising slogan—“No separate administration in Manipur”, “Zoramthanga down down”, “Mizoram CM down down”.

The protestor also burnt down life size photographs of Zoramthanga wearing combat dress with an assault rifle.
