Meitei left to take its own course: Lancha

Imphal: The government has failed to function to take concrete steps to call Assembly session and to protect the Meitei community which has compelled the Meitei to take its own course to protect the land (Manipur) and its people.

Culturologist and film maker Ningthouja Lancha said this during the release of a patriotic Manipuri music video album “Mithibong Mitambal” at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday.

The Manipur Assembly members have failed to function in this crucial hour despite of the demands from various sections to call special Assembly session, the culturologist said.

People groups have been pressing the government to call a special Assembly session to take a resolution on the present Manipur crisis.

The government and security forces have failed to protect the Meitei people from the Kukis attack. Instead Assam Rifles turn on their to Meiteis, Lancha said and he cited names of two Meitei shot to dead by Assam Rifles.

As the Meitei people are neither protected nor the Assembly takes a decision on the crisis, Meitei are now left to protect themselves, he added.

Manipur has been on boil since the Kuki launched violent attacks to Meitei on May 3. The ethnic crisis has turned out to be Narco-terrorism as many says.

The music album was produced by Maibam Eteen Meitei, a social activists. Raju Sanasam composed the music of the song sung by Moirangthem Irabot. The lyricist was Keke Wahengbam. It is a tribute to Meitei lives lost in the crisis.
