Imphal: Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey has assured Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint co-ordinating Committee for Peace to convene special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly by Friday next.
The governor made the assurance on Saturday when the Keithel commitee members submitted a memorandum at Raj Bhavan in connection with the present crisis in the state.
The Ima Keithel women vendors under the umbrella of the joint co-ordinating committee demonstrated at Raj Bhavan gate with a banner ‘Call for immediate Assembly within one week’. demands.
They demanded that no bullet should be fired from armed individuals or groups to civilians of Manipur within 2 weeks; National Highways should not be let locked; central government must rebuild the houses to their original lands with safety and security of displaced people; central government should provide compensation to deceased and injured individuals within 30 days and central government to set up review and recommend commission to elude future community clash in Manipur.
At least four representatives of the women vendors organisation were allowed to meet the governor.
Co-convenor of the committee, Dhaneshori told reporters in front of Raj Bhavan that the governor informed the chief secretary of Manipur through phone in front of them to convene special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly by Friday next.
Anusuiya also assured that she will take necessary steps to replace Assam Rifles by other central forces and to take necessary security arrangement for returning of displaced people to their homes.
The women demonstrators hold placard carrying slogans “Mizoram should stop double standard game”, “International and national unity is one”, “Let’s unite all Meitei, nothing can stop us from reaching our destiny”, “Let’s rebuild a better tomorrow and for thousands years to come for Manipur”.
