Six nabbed on viral video

Imphal: In connection to the viral video of two women paraded naked on May 4, another accused was arrested on Saturday. 

Altogether six persons including five  main accused and one juvenile have been arrested/apprehended in the case so far, Manipur Police said on Saturday.

“The State Police is making all-out effort to arrest the remaining culprits by conducting raids at many suspected hideouts.” 

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State is still tense and volatile. Peaceful protests by way of sit-in dharna and peace rally took place at many places, the police control room said.

Security forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts. 

A total of 125 Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and police detained 396 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state. 

Movement of 839 vehicles on NH-37 and 215 vehicles on NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police control room said.

It was reported in some local daily newspapers that a large number of protestors form a mob and proceeded towards Kwatha village with alleged intention to attack and burn down the village. However, the superintendent of police, Tengnoupal along with the commandant of 20 Assam Rifles went to the village on Saturday and interacted with the villagers of Kwatha village. It is reported that there was no such attempt to burn the village. 

Appeal is made to publish only verified information in sensitive cases, the police control room said.

It also appealed to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
