Imphal: Two teams of narcotic cell, Imphal East apprehended a drug peddler along with about 156 gm of Heroin powder on Monday.
The smuggler was identified as Md Gayazuddin, 32, son of Md Maherauddin of Kiyamgei Awang Leikai, Imphal East.
Acting on a reliable information the police team led by officer-in-charge, narcotic cell, Imphal East Kh. Devkumar assisted by assistant sub-inspector Md Tamijur Rahaman along with the volunteers of Youth Athletic Development Association, Keshtrigao, Imphal East conducted frisking and checking in an around of Kiyamgei Idgah Salam Manung at about 8.30 pm.
During the operation Gayazuddin was apprehended with 15 soap cases of Heroin powder. The seized drug would worth about Rs. 31.2 lakh in international market, police said.
The arrested person along with the seizures have been handed over to Irilbung police station for further necessary steps, it added.
