Imphal: 13th Battallion of the Dogra Regiment felicitated Olympic silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu at the auditorium of Red Shield, Leimakhong Miliraty station on Friday.
Major general 57th Mountain Division, Navin Sachdeva felicitated the Olympian with a souvenir.
Mirabai said her career in weightlifting was started in 2007. On the way to participate Tokyo Olympics she faced many struggle and people supported in various ways. To repay the supports and to bring fame for Manipur and India she put more effort to achieve a medal in the Tokyo Olympics games, she added.
“It is a dream for a sportsperson to participate in Olympics games and to get a medal,” Mirabai said.
Sachdeva said the people are expecting a lot from the silver medallist in the near future in order to bring fame for the state as well as for the country. It is the beginning people are waiting for more achievement from Mirabai, he added.
The upcoming sportspersons should also follow the path of Mirabai and should put their effort at their level best to bring more achievement for the country. It is proud that Mirabai is also a member of the Indian army, he added.
He wished Mirabai to bring more achievement for the country in the near future.
