Imphal: The pandemic is a lesson for humankind, Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said in his message on the World Environment Day.
“Even so, we may take the pandemic of Covid-19 as a harsh reality, a time for all of us to blink, wake up and reassess our priorities. Nature does not need us but we need nature for our survival. Nature is our mother. It is imperative for each one of us to take care of her first before tending to our needs. At the least, let us secure our planet for our future generations by planting more and more trees,” Biren said.
World Environment Day is one of the biggest annual events organised by the United Nations in recognition of the value of the environment. The United Nations General Assembly established World Environment Day in 1972, which was the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.
“The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is aptly ‘Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.’ with this year marking the beginning of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. On this occasion, let us resolve to be more sensitive to nature and environment and to bring about little changes in our activities and lifestyle that can help restore the natural order of things,” Biren said .
