Imphal: Amid the Covid-19 crisis and curfew woes people in the heart of Imphal face unavailability of tape water and urges the government for immediate supply of tape water.
“We have been buying water from private water suppliers as there have been no water supply for many months. Above food and medicines, water adds additional burden in this pandemic. We have to book one day ahead to get water from private water suppliers as they are in demand now,” Arambam Uma, a resident of RIMS road told Pothashang.
Families in containment zone suffer to a great extent as private water suppliers are afraid of entering the area.
With no tape water supply people depend on private water tankers. Prices of water ranges from Rs 350 (1200 litres) to Rs 1500 (12, 000 litres).
“We, low wage earners are worsely hit. I have not been earning regularly since last year’s lockdown. Many like me have been suffering. The government should at least supply tape water regularly,” an Imphal resident who works at a corn flakes factory said.
“Where is tape water in curfewed Imphal?” “We buy water for Rs 350 every four days costing Rs 2, 450 in 28 days while the prices of essential commodities hike,” a Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai resident, L. Babyrani said. Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai has not been getting tape water since April 23 night and that too after many days, she added.
