Imphal: Manipur State Kula Akademi deeply condoled the ‘sudden and untimely’ demise of eminent writer Dr Jodha Chandra Sanasam and noted Thang-Ta exponent Mutum Arunkumar Meetei.
An eminent novelist, short story writer, poet, lyricist and translator, Dr Jodha Chandra Sanasam was one of the most prolific and multifaceted Manipuri writers. Although it doctor by profession, literature was to passion which he followed fill his last days, secretary of the state Kala Akademi L. Kishworjit Singh said in a condolence message on Monday.
Apart from Sahitya Akademi Award, he was a recipient of Manipur State Kala Akademi Award for Literature (2011). He was also the editor of Manipuri Culture and Literature, an English journal publish by Manipur State Kala Akademi. His demise is a big loss for Manipuri literature, he added.
Mutum Arunkumar Mectei was a noted exponent of Thang-Ta who was bestowed with the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award (2016-2017) in the field of Thang-Ta. Trained under several eminent Gurus like Padmashri N. Khelchandra and S. Devabrata (SNA Awardee), he was not only a noted performer but was also respected for deep knowledge in the art of Thang-Ta. His demise has created to void which will be hard to fill, kishworjit said.
As this hour of grief, Manipur State Kala Akademi stands with the families of the bereaved and pray that both the departed souls rest in peace in heavenly abode, he added.
