Rs 48 lakh worth Burmese teak recovered

Imphal: Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under aegis of IGAR (South) foiled smuggling attempt of Burmese Teak Wood in New Songyang on Saturday.

The troops recovered a large quantity of smuggled Burmese Teak wood and apprehended two smugglers near New Songyang of Chandel district.

The team was deployed to thwart smuggling of illegal goods on routes connecting Indo Myanmar Border into Chandel and Tengnoupal district. During late evening hours, troops intercepted one TATA truck. On checking, Burmese Teak wood worth Rs 48 lakh was recovered, the Assam Rifles said.

The recovered wood alongwith apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to civil authorities for further legal action
