Imphal: While as Manipur faces Covid-19 woes, Brown Sugar worth Rs 2.52 crore was recovered by Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S) on Thursday.
Smuggling of the drug was foiled near Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district.
On receiving input of a suspected vehicle in pineapple farm, troops of Tengnoupal Battalion intercepted a Maruti Gypsy in the morning. On thorough checking of the vehicle, 107 packets of Brown Sugar were recovered. The Brown Sugar was being carried to Imphal by three individuals, the Assam Rifles said.
A total of 1.260 kgs of Brown Sugar worth Rs 2.52 crore was recovered, it added.
The apprehended individuals and brown sugar was handed over to police department for further investigation, it said.
