Biren asks people not to regard Covid-19 crisis lightly, says state receives 150 ventilators

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh has appealed to the people in the state to strictly follow SoP to combat Covid-19 crisis cautioning that all those who defy the government instructions will be arrested and punished.

Biren made the appeal in a public address made on Thursday.

Since the past few days the state has started taking up harsh action. Those who do not wear face masks were detained, produced at Court and even put in jail, he said.

“People should follow SoPs strictly in every occasion including pilgrimage and religious ceremonies. All the violators including hosts would be arrested,” Biren said.

He said prevention is the only means to get rid of the pandemic.

The state government welcomes suggestions and opinions from the public regarding effective tackling of the pandemic, the chief minister said.

A total of 150 AgVa ICU ventilators sent by the Union ministry of health and family welfare for use in tackling Covid-19 pandemic victims have arrived Imphal, he said

The ventilators were provided under Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARE Fund).

The ventilators can be functional both invasive and non-invasive with inbuilt battery backup of two hours. Ninety such ventilators provided earlier by the Centre are also currently functional at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), he said.

The central government had also provided 400 oxygen concentrators and 500 D-Type oxygen cylinders, he said and added that the state at present has around 3000 D-Type cylinders.

The state had also received two RT-CPR machines from UNICEF. It was decided to install one each at JNIMS and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences he said.

Oxygen generating plants would be opened in Thoubal and Churachandpur districts within 10 days. The government is trying to open in some other districts too, he added.
