Imphal: Water resources minister Letpao Haokip and MLA Kh. Joykishan on Tuesday inspected the enhancement of Pemikhong Drainage System from Khurai Konsam Leikai to Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai.
They inspected the portions of the project at Porompat DC road area along with the top officials of the department.
The project is under the Division No I, Flood Control and Drainage of the department. The total length of the Pemikhong drain is 3.80 km, of which the length of the pucca drain to be constructed is 2km. From this, pucca drain construction from downstream of Porompat DC Road is already completed. The project also consists of 5 RCC Slab culverts, of which two have been completed at present. Also, channelization and earthwork in banking in some areas are still to be taken up.
The inspection is conducted immediately after the assembly session as he had assured in the House that he will keep a strict monitoring of this project till the very completion, the minister said. He expressed satisfaction to find water being drained properly in areas where pucca portion has been completed already.
He also strongly instructed the concerned person of the project to complete the project at the earliest. The original deadline of completion of this project is March 31, but due to the disruption in works due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that may not be feasible and possible at all. However, he has instructed to complete it as soon as possible, of which failure of any such instructions will lead to severe actions and may even invite blacklisting of the contracts, he added.
Letpao appealed the residents and local clubs and bodies to give co-operation and not to cause any hindrances so that the project completes in time.
Joykishan said opposition and the ruling should come together in proper monitoring of such developmental projects in the larger interest of the public. He also suggested the public, especially the local clubs and bodies to co-operate in such projects and if the need arises. He drew the attention of the government to provide security in disrupted work sites.
