Police foil attempt to plant explosives, 3 NRFM women cadres arrested

Imphal: Manipur Police on Friday arrested three women cadres of the NRFM (National Revolutionary Front of Manipur) along with components of explosive device.

They were apprehended when Bishupur Police conducted a massive search operation in and around Moirang area.

After receiving a ‘reliable’ input that some cadres of the NRFM (National Revolutionary Front of Manipur) are going to plant explosives at the Moirang area, police conducted the search operation.

During the course of frisking and checking, two ladies who were Laishram Jillarani, 25, daughter of L. Nobin Meitei resident of Heirok, Thoubal and Laitonjam Elizabeth, 23 daughter L. Imo of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapan were arrested and from their possession, nine live rounds of 0.32 mm were obtained.

They revealed that on the instructions of one Chinglensana Thangjam of the NRFM, they had gone to plant the explosives at the Moirang Market Place but seeing the presence of CDO teams, hid them at the residence of one Hemam Romita at Khoiru Leikai near Moirang Lamkhai, another member of the NRFM, police said.

Afthe police team conducted a house search at Romita and found nine gelatin sticks weighing 100 gms each, 41 detonators, thirty five demand letters and 2- feet long Cordtex wire safety fuse.

Later, Romita was arrested from DC mini secretariat complex, Bishnupur.

The three women disclosed the police that they were involved in collection of funds for the organization from shops and general public of Moirang area by serving demand letters. They further disclosed that they were also involved in planting an IED at Naya Naa Hotel, Moirang on June 25.
