International Day for Girl Child observed

Imphal: Social Welfare Minister Shri Okram Henry appealed to join hands to eliminate and eradicate all forms of discrimination against girl child in the State. A collective effort is needed to improve the social, political and economic status of women in the State, he added.

He was speaking during International Day for Girl Child and Beti Bachao Beti Bachao campaign held at DC Complex, Imphal East on Monday organised by District Administration, Imphal.

He said that the status of women in the State is relatively better compared to other states of the country. The female literacy rate of the State is also above the national average. He appealed to the CSOs, local clubs, NGOs to organise awareness and sensitization campaign so as to bring gender equality in the State.

The Minister distributed prizes to the Girl Achievers’ of Imphal East district. DC Imphal East Khumanthem Diana, SP Imphal East Haobijam Jogeshchandra and other officials of District Administration were also present in the programme.

Minister Henry also inaugurated a 15 day free detoxification camp at Angtha Mamang Leikai on Monday.
