Imphal: A part of Thangmeiband Polem Leikai in the heart of Imphal has been declared containment zone after confirmation of an eight year old girl, resident of Thangmeiband Polem Leikai, Imphal West, positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.
She along with her friends returned from Delhi on June 22. Her parents had been in paid quarantine at Hotel Phouoibee and the couple found positive for Covid-19 on June 28 but their daughter was found negative at the time.
According to police, due to minor age the daughter has been strictly quarantined at home. However the girl tested positive on Sunday. A medical team picked the girl along with her uncle, grandfather and grandmother, who is a shopkeeper. The three family adults were kept at IIIT Mantripukhri quarantine centre.
Local people on Sunday night reported that two masons from Yumnam Patlou, Imphal East who were working in their house at Polem Leikai might have been infected. Police on Sunday night contacted administration officers to take up necessary follow up action. One dog which is always playing with the girl is also in the house. The house has been locked.
Neighbours were instructed to follow strict norms to prevent from further infection. Informations were being collecting about the identities of the masons, police source said.
In view of the impending threat of Covid-19 pandemic in the Thangmeiband area, deputy commissioner, Imphal West on Sunday under The Manipur Epidemic Diseases, Covid-19 Regulations, 2020 and in pursuance of the advisory of the director general of health services (EMR division), ministry of health and family welfare, declared containment zone and instructed concerned officials to immediately take up containment measures in the geographical area covering Yumnam Sagei Thongal in the North, Khoyathong Pukhri Makha Lambi (road) in the South, IVR (Polem Leikai Road) in the East and Goverdhon Achouba Lambi in the West.
The containment measures include sealing of the geographical area and entry and exit of population from the containment area, closure of schools, offices, if any and banning public gathering of any type, banning of vehicular movement in the area, nitiating active surveillance of Covid- 19 cases and compulsory use of Aarogya Setu application by all the people staying/residing within the containment area.
Any person/institution/organisation found violating containment measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, the order said.
Superintendent of police, Imphal West, has been asked to strictly ensure perimeter control over the containment zone and allow movement only far medical emergencies and supply of essential commodities and services within the perimeter of the zone/area and immediate necessary enforcement. He was also requested to allow free movement of commuters/ vehicles along the Lambis/IVRs/ Thongal aforementioned and also submit day-to-day situation report.
