Imphal, January 14: Shiv Sena Manipur unit has demanded the government to set up state highway protection force at the earliest to make the drivers on duty along the national highways are free from risk of illegal tax threats.
Shiv Sena Manipur unit president, M. Tombi Sngh said the state government remains silent spectator even if aware of the illegal taxes imposed to transporters along the national highways. Drivers are harassed brutally and many have died as they fall in the hands of extortionists. Tombi appealed the state authority to set-up highway protection force at the earliest for sake of the drivers who are working round the clock.
The party also paid tribute to the departed souls of drivers in connection with driver’s day which was observed today.
Tombi said while the people are suffering with the rise in price due to extortion along the highways illegal taxes are also being imposed in the name of GST above the GST, which requires intervention.
