Imphal: Forests and environment minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar has warned to take up stern action against those who threaten Loktak Lake and its environment.
The minister made the warning during 2018 calendar publication of Loktak Development Authority (LDA) at his office chamber today.
He said his department is keeping a strict vigil to safeguard the Loktak Lake, including the wildlife. The department will take stern action against those who are found hunting and trapping of the migratory birds, he added. The minister also warned the fishermen to refrain from fishing at night time.
LDA functions under the aegis of department of forests and environment. The yearly calendar of the LDA depicts the developmental projects undertaken during the previous year including pictures of the wildlife and periphery of the lake.
Shyamkumar also said his department officials are committed to work for the development and saving the largest freshwater lake of the North East India. He also appealed to the people living near the periphery of the Loktak Lake to encourage and support the staffs of the department.
N. Indrajit Singh, Kshetrigao MLA and LDA officials were also present during the release of the yearly calendar.
