Imphal, Janauary 15, 2018: The 4th Inter Collegiate Youth festival for the agriculture colleges in the North East under the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal was kicked off today at the university complex.
Eleven colleges out of 13 agricultural colleges in the north east except from Assam are taking part in the 3-day festival. This is the fourth edition of the festival.
Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution minister, Karam Shyam said the fulfilment of the dream and aspiration of the students will help in changing the country. With the development of science and technology the world has become a global village. There have been reports of communal clash from different corners of the globe including episodes of discrimination of north east people in the Nation. Going together, understanding human value with love and brother hood extending help among each other will help in bringing peaceful state, added the minister.
He said the comparatively underdeveloped region can be pushed up by strengthening the youth of the region.
“I addition to provision of formal education skill development programme will be introduced soon so that it would help generate self-employment in the region”, said Professor M. Premjit, vice chancellor of the central agricultural university.
The first agricultural university of the country in Imphal has produced outstanding students that brought laurels for the region. In 2017, the university bagged 7 national awards and so far 85% of the College of Agriculture CAU products has occupied high status job at the government and semi-government sectors. It has increased the popularity and significance of the agricultural university’s college.
The central agricultural university was established on 26 January, 1993 and became functional on September 1993. Eleven agricultural colleges from the north east states, except colleges from Assam took part in the agricultural youth festival. Its jurisdiction extends to Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura. There are seven colleges under the university including the College of Agriculture in Imphal.
