IMPHAL, SEPTEMBER 5: Teacher’s Day was celebrated at the state level and at educational institution schools and colleges despite the Joint Students’ Coordinating Committee’s diktat to celebrate the day on October 5 instead of celebrating today.
The students’ commitee, formed by AMSU, MSF, KSA and SUK on Sunday cautioned that strict actions will be taken up if their request is not follwed.
Manjit Sarangthem, president of AMSU said it has not been decided what actions are to be taken up against those who celebrated Teachers’ Day today.
In the state level Teachers’ Day celebration held at the Auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) at KonungMamang in Imphal, 10 teachers were awarded with State Teachers Award, and teachers selected for their contributions in Green School Campaign were also felicitated in the function.
The teachers who recieve state award recieved Rs. 10,000 each.
Deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh along with education minister Th. Radheshyam Singh led the people to pay floral tribute to the portrait of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.
Chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh could not attend the celebration as he was attending second conclave of NEDA in New Delhi.
Biren Singh in his greetings said, “I am to learn that the Teachers’ Day is celebrated today as a tribute to the contribution made by teachers towards the community. It is celebrated to pay our hearty respect to the teachers in commemoration of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. I sallute all the teachers in Manipur.”
Joykumar Singh said there is the need to introspect teaching system in the State. He said, lot of changes have been witnessed over a period of decades. In olden days, relationship between teachers and students were good enough to infuse knowledge.
He said, good relationship between teachers and students are the key for an effective teaching and learning system.
He appreciated the Green School Campaign undertaken by the education department in the State and appealed to take pledge by the teachers and students to teach and learn for a meaningful future.
Radheshyam Singh said, teachers are the main contributing force that human resource development can be made possible in society. He said, what we are today is their contributions and we should respect them at our best. Keeping in view of the role played by the teachers, Government is fully committed for their welfare. Their problems including transfer & posting, quarters in remote schools, service extension to the National and State Awardees will soon be sorted out.
A book named “Education in Manipur” written by Dr. S. Jamini Devi was also released in the function.
YumnamRadheshyam, chairman(MANIDCO & MANITRON), T.T. Haokip, chairman, Hill Areas Committee of Manipur Legislative Assembly, principal secretary education(S) Vineet Joshi, commissioner, higher and technical Education H. Deleep Singh, teachers and students participated in the function.
