A cultural programme by the artistes of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal was performed at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan yesterday evening.
Hon’ble Speaker Lok Sabha Smt. Sumitra Mahajan; Hon’ble Governor Manipur Dr.Najma Heptulla; Hon’ble Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly & President, CPA Manipur Branch, Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh along with other high ranking officials attended the event .
A variety of dances of the State namely: Lai Haraoba, Khamba Thoibi, Kabui Dance, Mao Dance, Pung Cholom and Basanta Ras were exhibited in front of the audience that show the versatility, unity and diversity symbol of Manipur.
Highlighting the importance of organising the 16th Annual Conference of North East Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association at Imphal, the Governor said, “I am very happy that my association with Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is very long, it is something very nice that in CPA, even the State Speakers get a chance to see the various democracies, small and big of the Commonwealth. I used to express those things I have reservations about when I was elected as Vice-President of the Commonwealth Association in London.”
Sharing her similar association with Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, she continued, “I have known Sumitraji for a very ,very long time because I have three relations to share with her .First, I am from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. She is also from Madhya Pradesh. The other relation is I was married in Maharashtra, so I speak Marathi. I am Maharashtra’s bahu, daughter-in-law. The third one is that we both share presiding the House, she presides now in the Lok Sabha. As I have also presided the Rajya Sabha for 17 years, we have lots of common interests, common experience and common tortures which are associated with presiding officers. So we both share all those agonies.” (DIPR)
