Petrol are widely sold in open with no restriction along the Imphal road sides while almost all the petrol pumps are shut down impacted by the ongoing indefinite economic blockade called by United Naga Council.
People depend on the black marketers to refuel their vehicles at the rate of Rs. 120-150 as the few oil pumps opened today were reserved for some government departments and school van service providers. People say they have to face engine broke down problem if they refill their vehicle at lesser price than Rs. 150 per litre.
A long school van queue was witnessed in front of an oil pump in Imphal that provided petrol only for the school van service. The school van drivers thanked the government for allocating petrol to the school van service providers.
Maibam Kenedy, President of All Manipur School Student Transporters Association said, “We arrive at the extent to provide school service. As requested the government showing care for the school children allocated us the oil and we invited the school van runners to arrange petrol at the range of 10 to 15 litres per van.
Kenedy said, “When we don’t get oil we have to refill our vehicles at Rs. 150 per litre, which is a big burden to us. We ask for larger quantity for the allocation. But due to blockade few tankers are transported in and still we are suffering.”
People today began to line up in long queues in front of few oil pumps expecting opening of oil pumps tomorrow with the arrival of 34 petrol and 46 diesel tankers among other essential commodities yesterday night.
Fewer vehicles were seen running on the roads in Imphal since the past few days.
The UNC’s indefinite economic blockade has completed 65 days. They demanded to withdraw against the formation of Sadar Hill district and Jiribam district and continued the government created seven new districts by dropping the Sadar Hill district. The UNC blames the government for bifurcating Naga inhabited areas in creating the seven new districts, which is against the dream of Naga integration.
