The district session judge, Imphal West today sentenced convict Nongthombam Ajay, son of ex-minister of IFCD, CAF and YAS who is currently BJP state unit’s spokesperson N. Biren for culpable homicide to murder in connection to a firing incident resulting to the death of Irom Rojer.
The court announced the accused convict on January 6.
Ajay was produced before the court from the judicial custody. The session judge M. Manojkumar Singh sentenced the accused to rigorous imprisonment for five years and the fine of Rs. 10, 00,00 (ten Lakhs) under the section 304 Part-II IPC and in the default of the payment of the fine has to undergo two years simple imprisonment.
The convict accused is also sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years and fine a sum of Rs. 50,000 under section 27 of the Arms act and in the default thereof the accused has to undergo a simple imprisonment of six months.
The sentences for both the section 304-II IPC and for section 27 of the Arms act are to run concurrently.
The court ordered that the seized arm (M-20 pistol), magazines and ammunitions to be confiscated to the government, and directed to cancel the gun license issued in favour of the convict accused.

The court considered the convict of 25 years of age having the possibility of reforming and rehabilitating the accused.
Mother of the deceased after learning the court order lamented over the judgement and she cried where the law was. He was above thirty when he killed my son and it can be examined through biological test, said the mother.
P. Ibomcha Singh, the CBI counsel talking to the media said the family of the deceased can file an appeal to the High Court if they are not satisfied to the judgment of the district session court.
