Imphal: Women vendors of Khwairamband Ima Keithel (Women market) has demanded Manipur governor and chief minister to book those who savaged Koutruk and other villages in Manipur valley with aerial bombs.
Carrying this demand a group of women vendors of Ima Keithel marched a rally aiming to storm at the chief minister’s secretariat, here on Tuesday.
Manipur police foiled the attempt.
The women vendors protested against the silence of chief minister N. Biren Singh and governor Lakshman Acharya regarding the exaggeration of narco-terrorists occupational attacks with drone bombs.
Since Sunday, Kuki narco-terrorists have continued drone bombing attacks in Koutruk, Senjam Chirang, and Sinam, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to several others. Additionally, three assault rifles were snatched after a drone bombing attack at an IRB bunker in Sinam, Imphal East district.
The women vendors began their protest at Khwairamband Ima Keithel and headed towards the chief minister’s residence in Babupara, Imphal.
Manipur Police blocked the protest at BT Road near the eastern side of the Bir Tikendrajit Flyover Bridge in Imphal. Tension escalated between the protesters and the police, leading to the police using pepper spray to control the agitating mob.
Laishram Mema, a vendor, questioned why the governor of Manipur and the chief minister remain inactive on the recent drone bombing attacks by Kuki terrorists.
She expressed concern that the drone bombing could also target the chief minister’ss bungalow, Raj Bhavan, Govindajee temple, and Khwairamband Ima Keithel.
Mema said Kuki militants have been targeting temples and worshipping places of the Meitei community since the eruption of the Manipur crisis, May last year.
Mema questioned why the 40/50 MLAs, apart from the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, are not taking necessary steps to safeguard Manipur against the various attacks by Kuki.
The terror attack of ‘aerial bombing’ using high-tech drones against innocent civilians in the ongoing communal clash is highly condemnable. The Kuki militants are using sophisticated weapons typically used in warfare during this communal conflict, Mema said.
“The government should take stringent action and steps in time. It must avoid the habit of saying ‘the government is there for the people’ without taking any stringent steps to stop the violence.”
The government must book those Kuki militants involved in the drone attacks and take immediate concrete measures before the death toll increases, the vendors demanded.
