Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh wished the people of Manipur, ‘especially our Hindu brothers and sisters’ on the occasion of Kang (Rath Yatra) festival.

Celebration of the Kang festival begins on the second day of ‘Ingen’ month of Manipuri lunar calendar and ends on the tenth day of the same month, the chief minister said in his greeting.

“Hindus believe that the sight of Lord Jaganath on his chariot frees one from the cycle of re-birth. Devotees also make efforts to touch the ropes of the chariot, as it is believed that the Lord blesses those who pull his chariot.”

I join the people of Manipur in the celebration of Kang and pray to Lord Jagannath to shower His believers with spiritual merit and final liberation. May the Lord bless us with the courage to face the truth, and the state to peace and progress,” Biren said.
