Imphal: Most of the prrsent agricultural products are un-safe due to the high level of the content of chemical fertilizers, with the implementation of Goods Agricultural Practices (GAP) they will be safe for consumption.
Director horticulture and soil conservation, Kakchingtabam Debadutta Sharma said this at the inaugural programme of two days media sensitisation programme on ‘Horticulture scheme’ held at Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal on Wednesday.
The programme was organised by All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union under the aegis of Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation in relation with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of All Manipur Working Journalist Union.
Debadutta said in most of the valley areas, to get better yield, the farmers used chemical fertilizers and it will be hard for a farmer of valley to start organic farming instead. To bring a good agriculture product having permissible content of chemical fertilizer the central government is going to implement GAP, he added.
GAP will be applicable to all agricultural farming as well as farm including poultry farming, pisciculture and others, said Debadutta.
President of the journalists body, Bijoy Kakchingtabam, said while spreading information to the public media personnel need to have proper knowledge of the issues. After having proper knowledge of any issue a media personnel will be able to educate the public.
