Imphal: Jawans of 7th Indian Reserved Battalion has submitted a written complaint to director general of police, Manipur on Friday against its commanding officer regarding the corruption and malpractice.
Sources say the commanding officer (CO) of 7 IRB is allowing about 70 jawans of the battalion to stay at home by taking a sum of Rs 10,000 from each jawans.
The jawans of the battalion reportedly get substandard quality of food as the commanding officer is allegedly taking a huge amount for his own benefit which is to be used as ration money for the jawans.
Government officials had earlier reported that the state has around 30,000 police personnel including the strength of Manipur Rifles and IRB.
To control the present situation of Manipur central government has deployed around 80,000 central forces which is reportedly deployed at vulnerable peripheral areas of Manipur.
Despite the deployment of 80,000 central forces, violence in Manipur has not been reduced and the violence has been continuing for the last over 8 months.
According to the source, the commanding officer along with a jawan belonging to the same battalion is running liquor business by transporting huge consignment of liquors from Jiribam to Imphal in unit vehicles.
It is also reported that the CO is taking a sum of Rs 500 each from each of the jawans of the battalion who are eligible for Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme so that the eligible jawans can get their ACP amounts.
