Agitators burn down police vehicle at Imphal

Imphal: Enraged agitators set police vehicle on fire at Moirangkhom, here on Wednesday evening.

The agitators were demanding immediate action against murder of two teenagers, a boy and a girl, by Kuki militants.

At least 125 students were injured in security forces action during agitation on this day. Two of them sustained bullet injury.

This has aggravated the agitation, being joined by sections of people in Imphal.

Police said, an unruly crowd tried to attack the house of a political leader, the joint security forces repelled the crowd by firing tear gas shells. The unruly crowd targeted a police gypsy and burnt it, while assaulting a policeman and snatched his weapon. “Manipur Police condemns such action and will take stern steps to deal with such miscreants. Combing operations are being carried out for recovery of arms and catching miscreants.”
