Wife of United Naga Council’s president Gaidon Kamei, Hourelu Kamei has appealed the government to hold a dialogue following courts rejecting prayers for bail for the second time.
Hourelu said, “People in the hill and valley are totally suffering. If the government is really concerned for its people they should held a dialogue as it being a political issue.” She said things can be worked out through dialogue.”
Gaidon had earlier appealed the UNC members to withdraw the blockade which was denied by the UNC and the economic blockade still continues.
Gaidon Kamei and Shangkhil Stephen, information secretary of UNC were today produced at the chief judicial magistrate Imphal East with a prayer of 15 days judicial custody on the charge of breaking the wind shield of a truck that was transporting 515 bags of chicken feeds by the supporters of UNC at Tadubi Bazar along the national highway-2.
The accused persons were also subjected for 10 days police custody on the charge of creating enmity between communities in Manipur by imposing economic blockade along the national highways creating trouble to the general public of the state. The accused persons were charged for instructing to their members to carry out prejudicial activities and caused threatened to the drivers of the vehicles plying along the highways.
The counsel of the accused persons asked for bail, which was rejecte. The court ordered the accused persons judicial custody remand till January 25.
Following a formal arrest prayer, the court dispensed judicial custody period and remanded the accused till 20 effecting from today.
The court had earlier dispensed similar judicial custody remands to the accused few times as the police prayed for formal arrest on the charge of committing crimes during the ongoing economic blockade.
The UNC leaders were arrested on November 25 at the outskirt of Imphal. The UNC imposed its indefinite economic blockade on the midnight of November 1 opposing the government’s plan to create Sadar Hill district and Jiribam district. The blockade continues after the government has created new seven districts on the complain that the new districts created in the hills are bifurcated from the Naga inhabited areas which is against the dream of Naga integration.
