Imphal: Paying rich tribute to the war heroes of who laid down their lives during the Andlo-Manipuri War 1891, state observes Khongjom Day at the Khongjom War memorial complex Kheba Ching in Thoubal.
Floral tribute led by the governor Najma A. Heptulla and the chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh was paid to Paona Brajabashi and other brave warriors with gun salute. A tarpon was offered for the brave souls and paid homage with Sankritan.
Former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh was also present at the observation.
Heptulla praising the brave soldiers of Manipur who fought against the mighty British, said even they knew they were few and number and they knew they will lose they tried to protect their motherland. “We should build their memory in our heart and fight together against all the evils existing in the country even after 70 years of freedom”, added Heptulla.
Deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar said the very celebration reflects that we have to unite and cleanse all differences and work as one entity to step forward to the path of development.
Minister of education Th. Radhedhyam said we all must sacrifice to take our society in positive direction.
Cultural events related to the history of the Khongjom war were also performed to complete the observation of the day of the patriots.
