Amid tight security, a large number of people today turned up to pay floral tributes to the nine persons who were killed by security forces at Kodompokpi incident on April 13, 1982 at their memorial site located on Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband.
Relatives, well-wishers, friends and relatives of the nine deceased paid tribute at the memorial complex.
As a pre-emptive measure, large number of security personnel including women police personnel was deployed in and around the area from Thangmeiband Watham Leirak to Cheiraoching.
Checkings were carried out at various points at the foothills of Cheiraoching to prevent unwarranted incident and to ensure that no objectionable items are taken to the site.
Similar tributes were also paid at Kodompokpi where the nine persons were killed and at Tekcham Maning Ching.
The people were allowed to pay tributes to the victims as per an order of a single bench of the High Court of Manipur.
Thoudam Kunjabihari and Thoudam Loken of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai, Maibam Paka Singh of Heirok Part II Litanmakhong, Pakhanglakpa and Sorokhaibam Kameshwore of Heibongpokpi Makha Leikai, Khundrakpam Chaobhan of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel, Naorem Rajen Meitei of Kakwa Naorem Leikai and Moirangthem Premkumar of Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak were killed by Indian Army in an alleged shootout at Kodompokpi village on April 13, 1982.
Since 1987, relatives, well-wishers and friends of the deceased have been performing religious rituals at Cheiraoching memorial complex with the permission of Court of law.
