Imphal: Muslim Council Manipur (MCM) and United Hatta Golapati Council (UHGC) strongly condemned the commando personnel allegedly for not saving Fariz who was calling for help while drowning in Imphal river.
Fariz was said to be Covid curfew violator and has been missing at Imphal River was still on search.
Decrying the act of Manipur commando, Imphal East district for creating tense towards public amid locals of Hatta Golapati organised a protest at Hatta Golapati near KR Lane, Imphal East on Monday.
The state police department has been warning the public that those who violate the guidelines and restrictions shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005.
President of MCM who is also the convenor of UHGC, Haji Arafat Ali said Fariz along with some of his friends were playing football at KR Lane ground which is the local ground of the area. At about 4.30 pm of Sunday a patrol car of Imphal East district commando came to area and create tense to the public asking them to remain inside. When Fariz and his playmates saw the police patrol about six of them jumped into Imphal River, however, Fariz who has been missing called for help from the river as he was drowning, he added.
Arafat alleged that the police personnel saw him drowning in the river but did not take any steps to rescue Fariz.
Playing at local playground and it could not be taken as curfew violators, Arafat said. He agreed that Fariz violated the protocols of standard operating procedure.
The protestors staged the protest rally stating that police are responsible for the incident. They demanded to stop creating panicky situation in the name of curfew.
