Assam Rifles foils cross border smuggling

Imphal: Tengnoupal Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled cross border smuggling near Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district on Saturday.

Based on specific input on cross border smuggling near pineapple farm area, a search operation was launched. During the operation, the troops observed two vehicles plying on a jungle track. The column immediately moved to intercept the vehicles. On observing the troops approaching, the drivers abandoned the vehicles and fled into the dense forest, the Assam Rifles said.

On checking of the vehicles, 67 gunny bags containing textile items worth Rs 1.74 crore were recovered. The recovered items and vehicles were handed over to the Customs department, Moreh, it added.
