Imphal: Rajya Sabha MP Maharaj Leishemba Sanajaoba has made a proposal to establish UPSC main exam centre in Manipur, during the parliament session on Monday.
As a special mention MP Sanajaoba drew the attention of the parliament saying that every year many students appear the UPSC prelim exam in the state.
However, as there is no main exam centre in the state, students who clear the prelim exam have to travel to states like Aizawl, Shillong and Guwahati.
Hence, many students particularly those students who are living below the poverty line face inconveniences in travelling as well and accommodation, he said.
In the last five years Mizoram and Meghalaya could not produce any qualified candidate in the UPSC conducted examination while many from Manipur cleared UPSC exams. In 2020, 30 candidates from Manipur cleared the prelim examination. As for the Mizoram and Meghalaya only one each cleared the prelim exam.
In the interest of the Manipuri student the government need to open a main exam centre in Manipur to sort out the difficulties being faced by the aspirants from the state, Sanajaoba said.
