Imphal: Malemnganbi Mushroom farm will become a role model for Prime Minister’s call for self-reliance among youths of Manipur, Lok Sabha member RK Ranjan said on Monday.
Ranjan said this while interacting with reporters on the inaugural function of Malemnganbi Mushroom farm at Keibi Awang Leikai, Imphal East.
From the initiatives of Malemnganbi with mushroom cultivation she could produce about 1,000 kg mushroom in a season. In addition to that she has been able to give jobs to some people of the locality, he said.
Similar initiatives of Malemnganbi is needed among the youths of the state to encourage talented youths for self-reliance, he added.
Other talented youths can also take necessary initiatives under ministry of MSME, he added.
“Besides giving more profit on minimum effort the practice of mushroom cultivation would control pollution caused from the burning of straws during harvest season”, Malemnganbi said.
She thanked chief minister N. Biren Singh for giving loan of Rs 5 lakh under MSME. Necessary assistance were also received from state horticulture department through MP Ranjan, she added.
In a season of four months her farm could earn about Rs 5 lakh. Twenty persons are being employed at her farm.
Malemnganbi is planning to cultivate more different varieties of mushroom in the near future.
