Imphal: Sky Hospital, Imphal has announced to launch a week long free children heart surgery which will be jointly organised by Healing Little Heart (HLH) United Kingdom (Indian Branch), Manipur Heart Foundation and SKY Hospital on April 4.
Chief cardiologist and chairman of SKY Hospital Dr Shyamkishore Lairikyengbam, appealed to the people of Manipur and North-Eastern states of India to avail of such unique opportunity of the camp to give such children a new lease of life.
He also appealed to the medical fraternity of the region to advise their eligible children to take the opportunity.
The announcement was made by chairman of SKY Hospital at a meeting held at the hospital’s conference ence hall on Wednesday in presence of Dr Kh. Shantikumar Singh, medical superintendent of the hospital.
Registration for the camp will start from January 21 to conclude on February 27.
Free OPD and free Echo will be provided to the children selected for the camp. A team of 10 specialists of HLH based in Mumbai and Delhi will arrive at Imphal on the
April 3. The team along with specialists of SKY Hospital will perform 2 – 3 heart surgery per day for for days, the hospital authority said.
The camp was initially scheduled for May, 2020 but was cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic. As the pandemic situation is improving and patients with such birth heart defects will not survive without early surgical correction and cannot wait longer, the Heart Team of SKY Hospital and Healing Little Heart is set all and ready for the camp, the hospital’s media co-ordinator Maisnam Jimmy said.
Dr Ashish Katewa, senior consultant pediatric cardiac surgeon and co-ordinator of the Healing Little Heart, while joining the conference (via video conferencing) expressed his happiness to participate in the camp and appealed to general practitioners and pediatricians of the region to make their patients avail of the free camp.
