Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Friday laid the foundation stone for the state’s first ever water amusement park and inaugurated Likla Leima Leikon (garden) at Theng Ngu Chingjin at Awang Potshangbam Khunou in Imphal East district.
The amusement park would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore by Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd. while Likla Leima Leikon is managed by a local management committee with the assistance from the state directorate of environment.
“It has been a long dream to have an amusement park in the state because there is no proper recreational place,” Biren said, stating that he once tried to develop a water body along with the park at Lamphelpat in Imphal West when he was the chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board in 2004. However, it could not be materialized due to different reasons, he added.
“I am now happy that foundation stone for a water amusement park has been laid, the chief minister said.
The project is targeted to complete before the end of 2021.
Large number of people would visit the park every day after its completion. People of the area would be therefore benefitted in different ways, Biren said.
Around 460 acres of land had also been earmarked at Lamphelpat to develop a water body. This would definitely help retain the natural state of Lamphelpat, he added.
Forest, environment and climate change minister Awangbow Newmai, tourism minister O. Lukhoi, and social welfare minister Okram Henry took part at the foundation laying function.
