Manipur records single day spike of 337 COVID positive cases

Imphal: On the eve of Mera Chaoren Houba festival Manipur witnessed highest single day spike of 337 COVID-19 positive cases.

In the past twenty-four hours till 5 pm, 304 persons (184 male, 120 female) from general population and 33 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases, state COVID-19 common control room said.

The positive cases were from RIMS (16), JNIMS (136), Imphal West (35), Swiss (1), Senapati (1). Noney (1), Chandel (19), Shija Hospital (14), Babina Diagnostics (10),

Raj Medicity (7), CMC (2), Jivan Hospital (3), Kangpokpi (3), Maipakpi Hospital (6),Tengnoupal (2), Churachandpur (8), Imphal East (5), Bishnupur (5), Kakching (31), Ukhrul (8), Advance Hospital (2), Mother’s Care (1), Tamenglong (19) and Senapati (2).

The positive cases from general population were from Imphal West (55), Imphal East (113), Thoubal (7), Noney (1), Kangpokpi (3), Kakching (33), Ukhrul (8), Chandel (20), Tamenglong (19), Churachandpur (9), Tengnoupal (15), Senapati (12) and Bishnupur (9).

“Eight persons are returnees while the rest are locals without any significant travel history,” the control room said.

They were being shifted to the COVID care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing were in place according to the control room.

It said In the last 24 hours, five persons aged 74 years (female, Imphal East), 63 years (female, Thoubal), 70 years (female, Imphal East), 54 years (male, Tamenglong) and 56 years (male, Imphal East) expired at Shija Hospital, Raj Medicity and JNIMS (2) respectively.  The cumulative number of deaths reached 109.

A total of 164 COVID-19 patients were discharged from CAPF (35), Home Isolation (26), RIMS (3), JNIMS (7), Lamboikhong (26), Noney (3), RD Wing (4), UNACCO (19), Sadbhavna (15), Lanva (8), Jiribam (1), Thoubal (5), Moreh (2), TK Ukhrul (3) and PR Kakching (7).

The cumulative number of positive cases reached 14,715 (general population – 12,095 and central security personnel – 2,620). The number of active cases stood at 3,361 (general population – 3,018 and central security personnel – 343). The recovery rate was 76.41 percent.

In a press briefing on COVID-19 situation in Manipur principal secretary (health and family welfare) explained the steps and strategies taken up so far by the government and also new strategies keeping in view of the possible scenario in near future. He also administered the Pledge of Jan Andolan Campaign on COVID-19.
