Imphal: An adult male from Thoubal district who was suffering from Type-2 Diabetes and Hypertension died at JNIMS due to COVID-19 on Friday. With this the total number of deaths from COVID-19 has reached five.
In the past 24 hours, 116 persons including 9 females were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases at VRDLs of RIMS (54) and JNIMS (61) and Babina Diagnostic Centre (1). “Eighty of them are security personnel,” state COVID-19 common control room said.
The new positive cases belong to Churachandpur (59), Imphal East (1), Imphal West (12), Kakching (24), Kangpokpi (1), Tamenglong (2), Tengnoupal (1), Thoubal (15) and Senapati (1) districts. They were being shifted to COVID care facilities.
Nineteen persons from the districts of Imphal West (7), Thoubal (10) and Tamenglong (2) did not have any significant travel history. Rest were returnees from other states. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the control room said.
It said in the past 24 hours. 17 persons were discharged from CCCs of Meitram, I/W (4), Senapati (3), Thoubal (4) and COVID Care Facilities of RIMS (1) and JNIMS (5) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.
The cumulative number of positive cases was 2,621. Numbers of active and recovered cases were 931 and 1,689 respectively. The recovery rate stood at 64.44 percent.
COVID-19 dead bodies do not pose additional risk if SOP is strictly followed. The state government has issued an SOP in line with MoHFW on May 30. Dead bodies handled under the SOP are safe as they are kept in sterile body bags and disinfected as and when appropriate, the control room said.
The first casualty was cremated on midnight of Wednesday. The second was buried at Chingmeirong on the same night. “Concerned district administrations and medical teams are working tirelessly to tackle challenges arising out of the pandemic,” it said.
